Top Things To Do In Turkiye
Whether you are a beach lover or an archaeology enthusiast, Turkiye has so many options to satisfy every kind of traveler. Turkiye has an abundance of ancient sites and the entire Turkish coastline spans more than 8000 kilometers (approximately 5000 miles) in length. This is a country renowned for its hospitable people, excellent food, and diverse natural landscapes. I have compiled for you some of my top favorite things not to be missed here!
1- The Phrygian Valley
I have been so in love with this place since I first traveled there in 2019. This is a marked, long-distance hiking and bicycling trail in Western Turkiye. The valley is spread over a region within the borders of Eskişehir, Kütahya, and Afyon provinces today, is home to historical ruins and ancient artifacts. The land is vast, the wind is strong and it reminds you more of the steppes of Mongolia than anywhere else! This is the home of the ancient Phrygians and King Midas and it is off the beaten path and certainly not to be missed.
2- Cappadocia
Who would not have heard of Cappadocia? This is a place that belongs in fairy tales with its rock chimney, volcanic landscape and the skies that are full of hot air balloons. It has an excellent tourist infrastructure, it is very easy to travel here. Although Cappadocia has all the hype, don’t miss Avanos with all its lovely ceramics culture and the cooling river breeze.
3- Turkish bath
Hammam is one of the most delightful experiences one can have in their lifetime... The acoustics of the dome of the hamam mixed with sound of flowing water creates a hypnotic and meditative mood. It is like a sauna mixed with jacuzzi and ends with a foamy massage. No need to be intimidated... You will get proper guidance on the hammam etiquette upon your arrival.
4- Rakı-balık-meze
A Turkish culinary experience! Rakı is an anise-flavored alcoholic beverage often mixed with water and ice and balık is fish. Mezes are small dishes that are meant for sharing, just like the Spanish tapas. Mezes are both classic and creative combinations of herbs, vegetables and seafood. Don’t forget to top up your meal with fish if you have room left! This is an exquisite culinary experience...
5- Cruising on Bosphorus
6- Hiking the Lycian Way
7- Princes’ Islands
8- Nemrut
9- Bazaars
10- Kayaköy
